Choosing the Right Sunscreen for Your Skin Type
Everyone should lather up with sunscreen when hitting the beach or the pool, but did you know that it is equally as important to wear a sunscreen every day? Although you might not realize it, by even walking outside or sitting in the car, you are exposing your skin to the sun’s harsh elements. Gear up to protect your skin from the sun everyday and buy a daily moisturizer with a sunscreen in it. Read on to learn more about how to choose the right sunscreen for you and your skin type.
If you suffer from acne, then picking up just a generic body sunscreen will more than likely exacerbate your acne and cause you to break out like you just hit puberty. Instead, look for a sunscreen that doesn’t contain ingredients like PABA or oxybenzone, which are two of the ingredients that may break you out. Also, refrain from sunscreens that are thick and creamy and instead opt for a gel like sunscreen instead. Remember to consider any acne medications that you are on when choosing a sunscreen as sun exposure can often cause things like acne scarring when combined with certain medications.
If you suffer from dry skin, you can really benefit from a thick facial sunscreen that has moisturizing components in it as well. For instance, look for a sunscreen that contains natural moisturizers like coconut oil.
If you have fair skin, then you are likely not even going to attempt getting a tan any time soon and even 5 minutes in the sun may cause you to resemble a tomato. For fair skin, it’s recommending to wear a sunscreen with at least an SPF 30 in it in order to really protect your skin from the sun— when applying the sunscreen, make sure to apply it on in thick layers to get the most protection possible.
Luckily, not all sunscreens are created equal. And with the advancement of skincare technology, there are different types of sunscreens for different types of skin. To learn more about proper skin care or to schedule an appointment with our office, contact us today!
