Dr. Sommerville, the Medical Director at the Chevy Chase Dermatology, LLC, welcomes patients from Washington, D.C., Maryland and northern Virginia as well as other states and abroad. Dr. Sommerville is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and draws on over ten years of clinical private practice experience in cosmetic, medical and surgical dermatology. Her ongoing commitment to quality patient care and continuing medical education has allowed her to accomplish extraordinary results and impressive safety record. Dr. Sommerville has been selected as one of the "America's Top Dermatologists" by the Consumers' Research Council of America. For outstanding contributions to the field of medicine and healthcare, Dr. Sommerville was recognized in July, 2009 by the American Biographical Institute as the "Woman of the Year in Medicine and Healthcare".
A graduate of the George Washington University Medical School, Dr. Sommerville completed her internship in internal medicine and residency in dermatology at the University of Michigan Hospital and Clinics and University of Missouri Hospital respectively. She served as a Medical Director and president of Vegas Valley Dermatology and Center for Cosmetic Dermatology in Las Vegas, before relocating to Maryland. In 2010, for her leadership and achievement in the field of dermatology, Dr. Sommerville was recognized by the International Association of Dermatologists as one of the Leading Physicians of the World.
Dr. Sommerville believes that in-depth knowledge of skin physiology and skin reaction patterns is necessary to practice dermatology with confidence and integrity. Before any new techniques are introduced into her practice, she conducts a careful research of all pertinent peer-reviewed literature paying particular attention to safety and efficacy of new equipment or products. In the era of constant pursuit of unending youth, many procedures enjoying popular demand now are unproven and eventually replaced with new and much more efficacious technology. It is important not to succumb to the marketing efforts of many companies in the cosmetic industry and pursue due diligence in separating true gems of cosmetic invention from mere gimmicks.
