A graduate of the George Washington University Medical School, Dr. Sommerville completed her internship in internal medicine and residency in dermatology at the University of Michigan Hospital and Clinics and University of Missouri Hospital respectively. She served as a Medical Director and president of Vegas Valley Dermatology and Center for Cosmetic Dermatology in Las Vegas, Nevada for nearly nine years before relocating to Maryland.
Dr. Sommerville believes that in-depth knowledge of skin physiology and skin reaction patterns is necessary to practice dermatology with confidence and integrity. Before any new techniques are introduced into her practice, she conducts a careful research of all pertinent peer-reviewed literature paying particular attention to safety and efficacy of new equipment or products. In the era of constant pursuit of unending youth, many procedures enjoying popular demand now are unproven and eventually replaced with new and much more efficacious technology.
