3 Common Skin Problems

August 15, 2019

Your skin is the largest organ on your body and its; also one of the most sensitive. Even though your skin is quick to heal itself after something like a papercut or burn, it is not entirely resilient. Here at our office, we see patients for a wide variety of skin issues. Let’s take a closer look at the three most common ones.

Acne

We have all had a little bit of acne throughout our lives. Whether you suffered from heavy acne during your teen years or you still get a pimple here or there and you’re in your late 30’s, it’s safe to say, nobody likes having a pimple. Acne is probably the most common skin condition that patients face. Caused by either bacteria or hormones, the good thing to know is that we can treat it with a variety of different topical or oral medications.

Dry Skin

Another thing that we see patients for is dry skin; especially as the weather changes. Having a little bit of dry skin is normal and can typically be treated with a topical over-the-counter cream like Aquafor or Cetaphil. If, however, your skin feels so dry that it’s raw to the touch then come into our office and we will do some brief testing to see what the root of it is.

Eczema

Dry, itchy skin that has some bumps on it is usually an indication that you have eczema. The unique thing about eczema is that it can affect people of all ages, including infants and older adults. There is still no cure for eczema, but we have a variety of different treatments that we can do to help keep it under control.

If you suffer from any of these skin conditions, contact our Chevy Chase office and call 301-656-SKIN (7546).
