How does Dysport work?

February 14, 2021

Dr. Margaret Summerville of Chevy Chase Dermatology sees patients every day who want to improve their skin’s appearance and health. When patients are interested in reducing the development and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, they are often ready to consider the advantages of cosmetic injectables. Several types of anti-aging injections are available in today’s market, including neuromodulators such as Dysport.

What is Dysport?

Dr. Margaret Summerville describes Dysport as a neuromodulator. Neuromodulators are medications that are used in addressing muscle contractions. When a patient uses their facial muscles to frown or smile, it can cause the formation of what is known as dynamic wrinkles. These wrinkles and folds tend to develop:

  • Between the eyebrows
  • On the forehead
  • Around the eyes
  • Around the mouth

How does Dysport work?

With an injection of a neuromodulator, patients can smooth these areas and achieve a more youthful look quickly and easily—without the need for plastic surgery. This makes it a wonderful solution for patients in their 30’s and 40’s who are developing the early signs of aging and want to stay one step ahead!  Patients can also use Dysport along with other cosmetic injectables such as volume stimulators and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to essentially achieve a “liquid facelift.” Mild and moderate signs of aging can be addressed in this manner and delay the need for surgical intervention. However, patients with severe signs of aging, noticeable sagging skin, and other concerns may still be a better candidate for treatments such as surgery. During a consultation appointment, Dr. Margaret Summerville will determine if Dysport or other injectables are the optimum choice for a patient’s unique needs and goals.
