Enjoy thicker, fuller, longer lashes with Latisse

June 15, 2020

At Chevy Chase Dermatology, we provide a variety of services for our patients to consider. These cosmetic treatments provide improvements for the hair, skin, nails, and body. Additionally, our providers are pleased to offer a solution for thin, short eyelashes: Latisse.

Understanding Latisse

Our providers are pleased to offer Latisse treatment for patients who want thicker, fuller, and longer eyelashes. Latisse is a medication formulated with bimatoprost ophthalmic solution that has been approved by the FDA as a treatment for patients with inadequate eyelashes. This medication grows lashes and thickens them over the course of several weeks. With continued use, patients can permanently improve their eyelashes and even eliminate the need for mascara.

Who is a candidate for Latisse

Any patient who wants thicker and longer eyelashes is encouraged to ask the team of Chevy Chase Dermatology about this treatment. The medication is prescription only, and can be an affordable and more permanent solution than alternatives such as eyelash extensions.

How long does it take to work?

Each day, patients are to apply Latisse medication directly to their upper lashes before bed. When patients sleep, the mediation is also applied to the lower lashes. Over the course of several weeks, patients will notice changes to their eyelashes, including new eyelash growth and lengthening of existing lashes. As long as patients apply Latisse, the results are permanent. Discontinuation of Latisse will result in eyelash loss and thinning. Continued use is needed for maintenance, and refills can be obtained with a prescription from our team.

Are there any side effects to Latisse?

There are some possible side effects that may occur with Latisse use, but many of these are mild and rare. This includes discoloration of the eyelid skin or hair that grows outside of the treatment area. Patients should also discontinue use if they develop an allergic reaction to one or more of the ingredients in Latisse.
